COLTS MEMBERSHIP 2008
WELCOME TO THE PARK
We
are pleased to welcome you to Knebworth Park Cricket Club at the start of
another season. Once again we are
looking to provide first class coaching in a family environment dedicated to
improving cricket skill levels and the understanding of the game. I do hope that your child/children are keen
to play cricket again this season and would ask you to spread the word to other
children/families who may be interested.
CLUBMARK ACCREDITED
Knebworth Park was one of the first cricket clubs in Hertfordshire
to be granted accreditation under Clubmark through the English Cricket Board
(ECB) and Sport England. What this means
to you as a parent/carer is that the club meets national standards in the way
it coaches and organises itself. Clubmark is recognition that Knebworth
Park supports the
development of a club that is safe, effective and child friendly.

season starts on Saturday 19th
April 2008 and will continue until Sunday 30th August 2008.

teams also taking part in festivals. In
total, over 100 matches have been arranged for this season with 20 plus coaches
and volunteers committed to delivering training and organising matches so every
youngster has the opportunity to progress and enjoy their sport.
This
season the club will again be supported by coaches from Australia one of whom is our club
coach Jarrod Turner. In Australia Jarrod
is responsible for coaching at every age level (5 – 19) in central Queensland. We
also enjoy the benefits of high quality nets and bowling machines.
MANAGERS/COACHES
The
managers and coaches for each age group are detailed in the Fixtures and on the
club websiste.
HELP NEEDED
(Coaches/Managers)
We
are seeking additional help to manager our under 8’s on Sunday mornings. At this age it is not strictly about cricket
but more about developing coordination skills and having fun. We would be willing to fund coaching courses
for anyone who would be interested.
We
are also short of a coach/manager in the U14 age group. Any volunteers please contact me or Chris
Johnson 01438 817448.
As
well as coaching, there are many other areas that volunteers are needed. For example, we are setting up a Colts Social
Working Group to help plan the social events for the year. We will need people to help run the kitchen
on Saturday and Sunday mornings – there are lots of things you could get
involved with! It all goes towards
helping the colts! Please ring me if you are interested.
GIRLS CRICKET
The
club is keen to develop cricket for girls. There are a number of able and enthusiastic girls at the club who play
in our teams. However it is our goal to
promote girls cricket and to introduce specific girls’ teams. So please encourage your daughters/sisters to
join in. We are also seeking volunteers
to help in the management/coordination of the girls’ teams. This year we have two girls’ teams in the
leagues and want to keep the momentum going.
Interested parties should contact David Baird e mail davidmckbaird@hotmail.com or telephone 01438 314012.
PROTECTIVE HEADWEAR
The
ECB guidance rules for Clubs and Schools require that protective helmets are
worn when youngsters are batting or wicket keeping. The club has purchased a number of helmets
for use during practice and matches.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will the club permit colts to bat or wicket keep
without a helmet when a hard ball is used.
COLTS CLOTHING
The
club operators a shop for colts clothing which includes club shirts, sweaters
and caps for more details contact Diane Prasad on 07905 762 425. Diane will be available at the club most
Sunday mornings.
We
are also collecting equipment such as pads/bats/helmets etc that colts have
outgrown. These items will then be
available for all newcomers to the club who do not want to pay out
unnecessarily at the beginning.
If
you have any unwanted equipment please let me know.
BUYING EQUIPMENT
Investing
in a cricket bat is a costly and important exercise. Too many bats purchased are either too large
or of a poor quality and impair the cricket ability of your children.
Ideally,
the top of the bat handle should reach the bottom of the side pocket on
trousers.
We
have partnered with CF Bats who make their youth bats from the same willow as
senior bats and are less expensive and better quality than most other
manufacturers. Their telephone number is
01623 846184 www.cfbats.co.uk - When
ordering mention KPCC
Younger
players – such as U7s (and older on occasions) would benefit at home from Kwik
cricket sets which are available under kwick cricket via www.ecb.co.uk

will be Coaching Schools in the May half term and for five weeks in the summer

SPORTS EQUITY MONITORING
Whilst
it is not compulsory that the section on sports equity monitoring is completed
the following paragraphs explains its significance.
ETHNICITY
Sport
can and does play a major role in promoting the inclusion of all groups in
society. However, inequalities have
traditionally existed within sport, particularly in relation to gender, race
and disability. Sport England and KPCC are committed to
promoting and developing sports equity, which is about fairness, equality of
access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. By monitoring the profile of young people in
sports clubs, national governing bodies of sport and Sport England can identify
any issues relating to under representation of different groups and can develop
strategies to ensure that all young people have the opportunity in the future
to develop and progress in sport.
DISABILITY
The
Disability Discrimination Act 1995 defines a disable person as anyone with a
physical or mental impairment, which has a substantial and long term adverse
effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day to day activities.
I
apologise for the length of the newsletter, but I feel it is important that
all of you are fully aware of issues that affect you and your children.
I
wish you all a great season but most of all enjoy your cricket.
